Research Overview

Epithalon (epitalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) derived from epithalamin, a natural polypeptide produced by the pineal gland. Its primary researched mechanism is activation of telomerase — the enzyme responsible for maintaining and extending the protective telomere caps at the ends of DNA strands. Telomeres shorten with each cell division; critically shortened telomeres trigger cellular senescence. Epithalon is one of only a small number of compounds that has demonstrated telomerase activation in both in vitro and animal studies, positioning it as a significant subject of longevity research. Secondary mechanisms include restoration of melatonin secretion via pineal gland normalization, antioxidant activity, and modulation of neuroendocrine function. In Russian research spanning over 30 years, Epithalon-treated animals showed increased lifespan, reduced tumor incidence, and improved physiological markers of aging. Human studies remain limited. How It Works

Telomerase Activation

Epithalon's primary researched mechanism is the activation of telomerase — the enzyme responsible for adding protective DNA sequences to telomere caps. Epithalon is one of only a small number of compounds that has demonstrated telomerase activation in both in vitro cell studies and animal models.

Pineal Gland Normalization

Derived from epithalamin, a natural pineal gland polypeptide, epithalon has demonstrated the ability to restore melatonin secretion in aged animals, normalizing disrupted circadian rhythms. Melatonin is itself a potent antioxidant, and its restoration may account for some of epithalon's observed anti-aging effects.

Neuroendocrine Regulation

Research spanning over 30 years (primarily from Russian institutes) has documented epithalon's broader neuroendocrine modulation effects, including antioxidant activity, tumor incidence reduction in animal models, and improvement in physiological aging markers. Human clinical studies remain limited.
