Research Overview
Noopept (chemical name N-phenylacetyl-L-prolylglycine ethyl ester, also known as Omberacetam or GVS-111) is a synthetic dipeptide developed in Russia in 1996 as an orally bioavailable analogue of Piracetam — approximately 1,000 times more potent per dose. It is one of the rare research peptides that works effectively via oral administration, crossing the blood-brain barrier within minutes. Noopept is a prodrug metabolized in the body into its active form cycloprolylglycine, an endogenous dipeptide that acts as a positive modulator of AMPA receptors and activates the BDNF/TrkB signaling pathway. Additional mechanisms include activation of the Hypoxia-Inducible Factor 1 (HIF-1) transcription pathway and upregulation of both BDNF and NGF expression. In Russian clinical trials across 30+ years with over 1,000 subjects, Noopept demonstrated 20-30% improvements on MMSE cognitive scores versus placebo in patients with mild cognitive impairment. It also showed anxiolytic effects. Standard protocol: 10mg twice daily for 1.5-3 month courses with at least 1 month break. Oral administration — no reconstitution required.
