PCAC wave 2 preview: five names already in the research catalog

By Peptide Hub Research Team · October 31, 2026 · 9 min read

July 2026’s PCAC votes on seven nominated peptides were not the end of the FDA compounding conversation. Policy trackers and compounding counsel widely flag a second advisory window—often summarized as “before the end of February 2027”—that may take up additional bulk-substance nominations. The names most often bundled in that preview are already familiar on Peptide Hub: GHK-Cu, Melanotan II, LL-37, dihexa, and PEG-MGF. This article is a calendar and evidence-stage briefing, not a prediction of votes.

Why a second wave is on the calendar

FDA’s 503A bulks process moves in nominations, reviews, advisory votes, and notice-and-comment rulemaking. The July 2026 meeting cleared a high-visibility slate (six yes, DSIP no). Remaining nominated substances and Category 2 legacy issues keep pressure on the docket. A second PCAC sitting before late February 2027 is the working assumption in much legal and industry commentary—not a guaranteed agenda until FDA publishes it.

GHK-Cu

Copper tripeptide-1 is among the most searched skin and hair research peptides. Non-injectable and injectable research contexts differ for compounding analysis. Any PCAC discussion would turn on bulk-substance nomination records, route, and safety/quality files—not on cosmetic marketing claims.

Melanotan II

Melanotan II remains a high-enforcement-risk name internationally because of unapproved tanning and libido marketing. TGA and other agencies have repeatedly warned on melanotan products. A U.S. advisory review would be scientifically and legally charged; presence on a meeting agenda is not permission to market.

LL-37 (cathelicidin)

LL-37 is an antimicrobial host-defense peptide with immunology and barrier research interest. Human therapeutic evidence is limited relative to its mechanistic fame. Expect staff briefing packages—if scheduled—to stress evidence gaps.

Dihexa

Dihexa is a synthetic angiotensin IV analog researched for cognitive endpoints. It is early-stage relative to approved neurology drugs. Advisory review would likely highlight the distance between rodent/cognitive models and compounding-scale human use.

PEG-MGF

PEGylated mechano growth factor is a modified IGF-1 splice-variant research tool. PEG chemistry changes kinetics versus native MGF fragments. Sport anti-doping frameworks already scrutinize growth-factor pathways; compounding and WADA analyses should not be collapsed into one slogan.

How to read the next meeting without hype

Watch for the Federal Register agenda, FDA briefing documents, and the difference between a committee recommendation and a final bulks-list rule. July 2026 already taught that even “yes” votes do not unlock same-week legal compounding nationwide. HHS’s October interim discretion policy covers a different six-peptide set and does not pre-decide wave 2 outcomes.
