Vasopressin (AVP, ADH): 2mg
Brain + moodDescription
Vasopressin (also called arginine vasopressin, avp, or antidiuretic hormone, adh) is a 9-amino acid neuropeptide produced in the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei of the hypothalamus and secreted by the posterior pituitary gland. vasopressin serves distinct peripheral and central roles. peripherally, it regulates water reabsorption in the renal collecting ducts (antidiuretic effect) and causes vasoconstriction through v1a receptors in vascular smooth muscle. centrally, v1a and v1b receptor signaling in limbic and social brain regions — including the amygdala, lateral septum, and bed nucleus of the stria terminalis — influences social memory, pair bonding, trust, and prosocial behavior through mechanisms complementary to but distinct from oxytocin. key differences from oxytocin: vasopressin has greater effects on social aggression and territorial behavior (particularly in males), stronger effects on social memory formation, and different receptor distribution (denser v1a expression in reward pathways). v1b receptors in the anterior pituitary regulate acth release and stress axis modulation. in research applications, intranasal vasopressin is studied for social cognition in autism spectrum disorder (asd), trust enhancement, and social behavior modulation. vasopressin and oxytocin differ by only 2 amino acids (positions 3 and 8) but bind distinct receptor subtypes with substantially different downstream signaling. for research and educational purposes only. consult a qualified healthcare professional.
Specifications
| Amount in Vial | 2mg |
|---|---|
| BAC Water | 4ml |
| Amount per Unit | 0.005mg per unit |
| Recommended Dose | 2mcg to 20mcg (0.4 to 4 units) |
| Frequency | As needed or daily (intranasal); daily (subcutaneous) |
| Injection Type | Intranasal or subcutaneous |
| Timing | Intranasal preferred for CNS social behavior and memory applications — onset within 15-30 minutes. SubQ for peripheral research applications. Titrate gradually — begin at lowest dose (2mcg) and increase cautiously. Compare with oxytocin for social neuropeptide research — similar structure, distinct receptor profiles and behavioral effects. Effects are rapid and relatively short-lived (1-3 hours); time dosing to research windows. |
