SHLP6 (Small Humanin-Like Peptide 6): 2mg

Mitochondrial function

Description

Shlp6 (small humanin-like peptide 6) is a 20-amino acid mitochondria-encoded peptide from the 12s rrna gene region, identified alongside shlp2 and the other shlp family members in the 2016 usc discovery. shlp6 is notable for a unique dual biological profile that distinguishes it from all other mitochondrial-derived peptides: it is cytoprotective in normal, healthy cells — protecting them from oxidative damage and stress-induced death — while demonstrating pro-apoptotic activity in cancer cell lines, selectively triggering programmed death in transformed cells. this cancer-selective pro-apoptotic property is not shared by humanin, mots-c, ss-31, or shlp2, and makes shlp6 the subject of distinct oncological and cytoprotection research tracks. the mechanism of shlp6's cancer selectivity is under active investigation — leading hypotheses involve differential expression of shlp6 receptors on cancer cells versus normal cells and distinct activation of intrinsic apoptosis pathways in transformed versus untransformed cells. like other shlps, shlp6 levels decline with age. its complete biological role in the mitochondrial aging axis is still being characterized. for research and educational purposes only. note: pro-apoptotic activity in cancer cells means this peptide has uniquely specialized research applications compared to the other mdps.
